The Charlie Ball Memorial Youth Scholarship fund was established to offer assistance with the fees associated with the Traditional Irish Arts of Knoxville’s annual event, the Tune Junkie Weekend.
Held February 7th - 9th, 2025 at the Historic Grove Theater in Oak Ridge, TN.
Dr. Charlie Ball promoted Irish music appreciation in Knoxville and surrounding areas by coordinating and hosting sessions in addition to various musical events around the area.
His guidance and steady influence enabled the people in this region to gain a better understanding of the Irish culture and music centered activities.
A person who would qualify for this scholarship would need to play or sing to/with Traditional Irish music and embrace the following mission of TIAK:
Present, promote, and preserve Celtic music and culture by providing or participating in performances as well as educational workshops with local and visiting artists to further the knowledge and appreciation of the Celtic arts.
All Submissions will be reviewed by
the Board of Traditional Irish Arts of Knoxville .
Scholarship recipients will receive a full weekend pass with accommodation for recipient, recognition in the program, and the opportunity to participate in the Showcase Concert on Saturday.
For any scholarship recipients under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must be onsite during the workshops and concert.

The scholarship award winners will be announced on January 15, 2025.
Application Requirements
You must be between 10 and 18 years old to apply.
We would like you to write a concise essay about your involvement with Traditional Irish music and what singing or playing music means to you.
You need to provide a short video of you performing your favorite song/tune.
If you are enrolled in an Irish Music School, please provide a letter of reference from your teacher.
